2024 RMAG CCS Workshop
OCTOBER 17, 2024
DENVER WEST MARRIOTT
GOLDEN, CO
Join the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists for a workshop on Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). With a diverse range of for an insightful and comprehensive presentations covering a diverse range of technical and non-technical considerations for the permanent subsurface storage of CO2. This workshop is designed for geoscience professionals interested in CCS, offering a balanced mix of expert knowledge and practical case studies.
Morning session will focus on subsurface technical aspects, including:
- CCS 101
- Geomechanics: Impact of faults, fractures and seismicity
- Static modeling and dynamic simulation of injected CO2
- Navigating leakage risk from legacy wells
- CCS case studies with known examples of successes and failures
Lunch will feature a Keynote speaker focusing on the present status of CCS and changes experienced since the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act.
Afternoon session will focus on non-technical considerations, including:
- Regulatory requirements for monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV)
- Land access and mineral rights (oil and gas) vs. pore space rights (CCS)
- Legal considerations, including 45Q tax recapture, impact on adjacent subsurface operations, etc.
- Regulatory compliance, current and future legislation and PR considerations
- Opportunities and challenges for CCS programs across the United States
The day will conclude with a Networking Happy Hour.
