Join RMAG for a walking tour of some of Denver’s iconic stone buildings, many of which are constructed with rock from Colorado quarries. You will learn about the early history of Denver and about the geology of the quarries where these unique rocks were extracted. Building stones we will see include the Precambrian Pike’s Peak and S. Beaver Creek Granites, the Mississippian Yule Marble, the Permian Manitou Sandstone and the Eocene Castle Rock Rhyolite. The walking loop tour is 2.0+ miles in length and will take ~3 hours to complete. This tour is perfect for both geologists and non-geologists so bring your family and friends!
