We are seeking an individual(s) (up to two, depending on pool of applicants and programmatic need) from this search. The successful individual’s qualifications will determine the level to which he/she is appointed.

The ISGS is a leading geologic research center in the USA with major programs in CO2 utilization and carbon capture and storage. We are seeking an experienced petroleum geoscientist to join the research team in reservoir characterization tasks for enhanced recovery of petroleum in mature oil fields within the Illinois Basin.  Requirements include a minimum of a master’s degree in geology, geological engineering, or related discipline.  Ph.D. is preferred.  Twelve (12) years petroleum geology or related industry or research experience post bachelor’s degree. Knowledge of petroleum geology, with emphasis on subsurface reservoir characterization techniques, such as interpreting well records and geophysical logs, including picking formation contacts and rock properties, identifying and interpreting facies, and depositional environments from subsurface geological data, cores, and outcrops, and a basic understanding of enhanced oil recovery techniques, reservoir diagenesis, and of petroleum systems.

~Sabbatical Replacement~
Sedimentary Petrology and Geochemistry

Duties:

Full-time, special, academic year leave replacement position starting August 16, 2013.  The position is for nine months with a salary of $52,000 plus benefits. Teaching responsibilities will include an upper-level core course for geology majors in sedimentary petrology and geochemistry, and introductory courses for geology majors in physical geology and historical geology.  The candidate will also contribute to supervision of teaching assistants in the general education introductory laboratory, and may choose to teach a graduate seminar in their specialty, participate in departmental outreach, and collaborate with faculty and graduate students. The successful candidate will be committed to teaching excellence and have the disciplinary background to cover the aforementioned courses.

Detailed Description  

  • Support of ongoing drilling operations including the generation of geological prognoses, the coordination of wireline planning, geosteering and log analysis.
  • Integration of geophysical, geological, and reservoir data to update reservoir and other key subsurface maps.
  • Working with petrophysical, reservoir and operations representatives to moniter well performance and waterflood conformance, and identify potential recompletions.
  • Provide geological support for communications with regulatory agencies.
  • Mentor less-experiences staff.

Job Requirements  

  • 5+ years of experience in geology in conventional and unconventional reservoirs.
  • Experience in horizontal well operations and geosteering.
  • Proficiency in geological aspects of well operations, including wellsite operations.
  • Working knowledge of log analysis and wireline, logging suite selection.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact in a team setting including representatives from other disciplines and vendors.
  • Highly organized with ability to work multiple ongoing projects.
  • High energy with ability to work with minimal supervisior

Exploration Geologist
Williston Basin

Summary
The candidate will be responsible for providing regional geologic interpretations of various plays throughout the Williston Basin region.  The candidate will integrate with the geophysicists, petrophysicists and engineers working on the team to enhance evaluations. The candidate will have the ability to integrate subsurface information, including geological, petrophysical, geochemical, and production to build a basin model and hi-grade areas within play fairways.      

Detailed Description  
  
Essential Functions:
  • Collecting and integrating data of differing types and scales to build an understanding of basin history, develop play analysis and resource assessment maps
  • Develop regional, multi-county stratigraphic framework and subsurface correlations
  • Generate and update maps, logs, cross-sections and corporate databases with new tops, correlations, shows and other pertinent geological data
  • Create, generate, manage and present sound, high-quality geologic interpretations and new acreage and drilling opportunities to Sr. Management
  • Prepare play geoscience analysis including, integration of log data, geophysical data, rock property information, land data, well performance and other pertinent data
  • Successful track record of prospect generation and finding hydrocarbons
  • Coordinate well logging and coring activities
  • Mentor to other Geologists, Interns and Technicians
Knowledge, skill, and abilities:
  • Able to work in multi-disciplinary team (Geophysics, Reservoir, Engineering and Land)
  • Understanding of play analysis, reserves analysis, economics and risk assessment. Capacity to weigh all factors and identify risks
  • Experience in horizontal drilling and well operations
  • Extensive experience in log analysis
  • Strategic thinker with ability to introduce innovative and sound solutions adding the most value to the company
  • Ability to communicate technical data through the preparation and presentation of clear, concise and persuasive oral/written opinions, reports and presentations
