Day-of Event registrations are now available. You may register for this event at the door for an additional $25.00 ($150 for members, $175 for non-members). Payment for day of event registrations must be received at the door. Cash, credit cards or check accepted. Course materials will be available as a PDF Download. You will receive notification when available before the start of the course. Day of event registrants will be given a link to download the PDF. Please bring a device to download the PDF.

Refunds for the September Short Course are only available until August 31, 2018.
Refunds for all RMAG technical and social events, except luncheons, are only available up to two weeks before the event date. If you are unable to attend, your registration for all RMAG events are transferable. RMAG members may transfer their registration to another RMAG member, and non-members can transfer their registrations to whomever they wish. Should an RMAG member wish to transfer their registration to a non-member, the non-member would need to pay the balance between the member and non-member price.

Day-of-event registrations are non-transferable and non-refundable.


Abstract: Obtaining high quality core and core analysis is a key job function for any geologist. This course will cover the coring process ‘Soup to Nuts’ and will include the process of selecting core point, cutting core, selecting an analysis program, and the lab tools used to collect core analysis data.  The course will be taught by experts in their field and will include demonstrations of core barrels/coring technology, a lab tour, and an Inflection Energy Marcellus core!




Tracy Lombardi is the Senior Geologist at Inflection Energy and has been involved in development of their Marcellus Shale asset since 2010. During her time there, Inflection has drilled 6 pilot wells, 3 with core, and 33 horizontal laterals. She began her career as a Geotech with the Colorado Geological Survey and moved on to become a Geologist performing assessment and development of many unconventional gas plays located in U.S. and international project areas. She holds a Bachelor of Science from Metropolitan State College, Denver and has over 25 years of experience in geologic formation evaluation.

Derrick Whiting’s position is Business Development, Technical Advisor Weatherford Laboratories, Houston, TX. He has fifteen years of experience in the industry, all with Weatherford Labs. He began his career in oil and gas with the WFT Geochemistry Lab Group. He has a strong background in geochemistry, petrology, petrophysics, geomechanics, and special core analysis and serves clients in designing comprehensive core and fluid analysis programs for formation evaluation in both conventional and unconventional reservoirs with extensive experience in the Permian Basin. Currently, Derrick is highly involved in the development and implementation of Weatherford Labs’ full service Oilfield Water Chemistry Laboratory. Derrick attended the University of Western Ontario.

Howard Wood is the Co-Founder & U.S. Sales Manager at Canamera Coring, Conroe, TX. He has 13 years of experience in the drilling & core acquisition industry beginning his career with Cameron International in Rock Springs Wyoming. In 2008, Howard joined ReedHycalog/NOV Coring Services, a company focused on working projects geared toward whole core acquisition domestically and abroad, and in his tenure, served as Account Manager – Gulf Coast, Europe Sales Manager - Aberdeen Scotland, and was the Executive Sales Manager in Houston, TX. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M University, served 8 years in the United States Marine Corps and is an Eagle Scout.
